Daily Sketch Project Day 100 - Indiana Jones Visits Warehouse 13 (Continued)

Dr. Jones: It should be in..a...a mu..seum...

Pete (whispering): Myka! It's Indiana JONES!!!

Myka: *rolls eyes*

Hey everyone!  So I thought that for the hundred day mark, I'd do another hour of work on whatever prompt was that day chosen (30 minutes for lines and 30 minutes for colors, or near enough), so as to make it different than the thirty-day marks.  In this way, it's more up to chance than the thrirty day intervals, because it's not my choice, but the luck of the draw.  So, I got some lines and flat colors down on what I'd already drawn for the Anthony's sketch.

Unless I can think of something better (or someone suggests something), I think I'll do this format for each one hundred-day mark.  Whatever prompt is chosen on those days will have an hour and a half dedicated to it, which will involve sketching, lines, and colors.

I hope you all like this, and thanks so much for helping me keep this project going for one hundred days now!  Here's to many many more!

Daily Sketch Project Day 101

All righty! Here is where you can submit ideas for DSP! Each has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn!  It's a new set of one hundred, start tomorrow!  These are the ideas currently submitted:

Gabriel: Japan Trip Portrait

Zaki: And everyday thing which I'm constantly in awe of

Cheri: Christ's Birth

Jax: Johnny Bravo competing with Star Lord for Gamora's attention. (both obviously unsuccessful)

Daily Sketch Project Day 100 - Indiana Jones Visits Warehouse 13

Dr. Jones: It should be in..a...a mu..seum...

Pete (whispering): Myka! It's Indiana JONES!!!

Myka: *rolls eyes*

Hey everyone and a Happy Centidiurnal to Daily Sketch Project! One hundred days, and one hundred sketches! And it's Anthony's sketch that came up in selection for Day 100. He wanted to see Indiana Jones visit Warehouse 13. For those who don't know, Warehouse 13 was a show on the Syfy Channel, where secret agents find and store magical and mystical artifacts in a giant warehouse, not at all dissimilar from that which stores The Ark of the Covenant in the Indiana Jones film series.

He seems quite taken aback by the warehouse stretching out before him, and Pete is barely able to contain his fanboy tendencies, while Myka finds this whole situation rather absurd.

It's a crossover I'd love to see on film or television. Ah, what a fine day that would be! It's not like some artifact couldn't bring Indiana Jones out of fiction into the reality of Warehouse 13. Or from an alternate dimension...or something. There are a LOT of possibilities. This also makes me realize that I really need to go back and finish up Warehouse 13, because I don't think I ever did, and I miss it ;___;

Thanks for the awesome suggestion, Anthony! It made for a great Day 100 prompt. I hope you and everyone else like it!

I'm still ruminating on what to do to commemorate Day 100, but you'll know it when I post it later tonight!

Daily Storyboard Project Day 13 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey everyone!  Back to continue Autumn's journey out to sea.  Way out, past the rest of the rabble, out where she only the sounds of the rolling sea and gulls and pelicans above break through the air.  Where a fresh oceanic breeze blows.  Here, she stops, and falls backward onto her float, at peace.

DAILY SKETCH PROJECT DAY 100 IDEAS

Okay, so one thought was that I'd choose one of the drawings from those that had more work done on each 30-day mark, and work on them for another hour, or maybe even until they're done?  I'd also considered going over every sketch that HADN'T had any more work done on it from any time in the past hundred days, and work more on it for another hour or so.  Then another thought had been that whichever prompt is chosen tomorrow will get an hour and a half to itself: thirty minutes for sketching, thirty minutes for lines, and thirty minutes for colors.

What do you folks think?  Do any of these stick out as most preferable to you?  Do you have a different idea that you think would be even better?  Please feel free to let me know

Daily Sketch Project Day 100

All righty! Here is where you can submit ideas for DSP! Each has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn! Tomorrow makes one hundred days of Daily Sketches, and I've been trying to figure out some way to commemorate it.  I'll make a separate post after this with some ideas I've had, and see what you folks think, or if you have other ideas you'd to see done.  Anywho, these are the ideas currently submitted:

Gabriel: Japan Trip Portrait

Zaki: And everyday thing which I'm constantly in awe of

Cheri: Christ's Birth

Anthony: Indiana Jones visiting Warehouse 13

Jax: Johnny Bravo competing with Star Lord for Gamora's attention. (both obviously unsuccessful)

Daily Sketch Project Day 99 - The Crystal James

Hey everybody! Today's is another from James, who wanted me to draw a portrait of him, based on his tumblr blog. There's not much for photo evidence, other than his icon, so I went with what I had, and the predominant theme I noticed among his posts, was that he loves him some Steven Universe. So here he is, quite pleased with the gem collection he's amassing.

I hope you like it James, and that everyone else does as well! Thanks for the good time prompt!

Daily Storyboard Project Day 12 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey everyone!  Here with your daily storyboard allotment from yours truly!  Spent an hour on some new thumbnails, and then the next finalizing a few.  Here we finish off this page of boards (leaving two blank frames, since I wanted a whole row for the horizontal pan at the bottom) with Autumn pushing off from shallow waters, and paddling her way into the ocean.  And on the next page  Autumn kicks further outward, leaving the beach and the beach goers behind her.  I'll be back with more boards tomorrow!

James: A portrait of him based on his blog

Daily Sketch Project Day 98 - Ninja of the Night

“Dude, I’m gonna go to parties.  I’m gonna be-people are gonna be at parties.  They won’t even know I’m there, and they’ll be like, "Did you hear something, TAD?’ and they’ll be like, ‘No,’ and they look up, and I’m all clinging up on the ceiling, and they’re gonna be like, 'What the-a ninja?!  Awesome!  It’s a party!’  I’ll be like, 'Just throw the cake up here, please!’  Dude!  I’m a ninja!”

Today’s prompt comes from Anthony, who wanted to see me “Ninjaing in the Night,” a la this video.  It’s a fandom classic, and I’m glad to put it down visually in my own way.  And with myself thrown in, no less!  And TAD
I hope you and and everyone like my offering, Sir Anthony!  NINJA OF THE NIGHT

Daily Storyboard Project Day 11 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey folks!  Realized that yesterday, since I finished another page of boards, I ought've just put up the full page, so I'm here to do it today!
And here are the new boards for today!  Autumns approaches the tide, and places down her float, carefully positioning herself before swimming out into the vast oceanic expanse.  That thumbnail is drawn, but not visible in this screenshot.  I did quickly come to the end of those thumbnails I did the other day, so tomorrow I'll be thumbnailing more, and then working on more finished boards.  I hit a block with the last batch of thumbs, but with any luck, I won't have the same problem tomorrow!  Hope you all enjoy these :D

Daily Sketch Project Day 97 - Mortal Kuisine

Hey everyone!  Today's prompt comes from my buddy Christopher, who wanted to see my favorite Mortal Kombat characters ordering (or attempting to order) food at a fine dining establishment.  So here we see Scorption, Reptile, and Sub-Zero, about to order, when the persistent kough Reptile's recently been suffering from takes hold of him and kauses him to accidently spit acid into the face of their waiter.  How embarrassing!  Scoprion kan't help but facepalm, while Sub-Zero just tries to sink down and disappear behind his menu.

Thanks for the very kool and kreative prompt, Sir Chris!  I hope you and everyone enjoy this manifestation of our long-time FRIENDSHIP

Daily Storyboard Project Day 10 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey again, everyone!  So we pick up where we left off, Autumn looking on Riley and his fans with disdain.  She rolls her eyes and walked toward the ocean.  Spent an hour thumbnailing (though I hit a bit of a snag on a moment or two, and so didn't complete as many as I'd have liked), and then the next hour doing what you see here.  There were only a few backgrounds that were replicated and not too many crazy foreground changes, so a lot of frames got finished today.  I imagine I'll be running over the next thumbnails in my head, and get the next finished frames up tomorrow!

Daily Sketch Project Day 96 - Avatar Cooper

"You know, this is - excuse me - a DAMN fine cup of tea!"

Hey everyone!  I'm very pleased to bring you this prompt via Sarah.  She brought up a very amusing point the other day that a passage from some music from the Avatar: The Last Airbender Finale matches up perfectly, for a few seconds, with music from Laura Palmer's Theme from Twin Peaks.  In our interactions, we eventually came to crossing over the two shows, and once Avatar Cooper appeared in our imaginings, there was nothing for it but for him to go onto the Daily Sketch Project prompt queue.

So here he is, Avatar Dale Cooper, giving himself his daily gift, a piping hot cup of tea.  He certainly seems pleased!  Another idea I had was him talking to a flying Lemur named Diane, but I ended up going with this.  THERE'S PLENTY MORE AVATAR COOPER TERRITORY TO BE EXPLORED

These are two of my favorite shows ever, and the fact that this is the first crossover art I've produced for their union is just criminal (I'm so so super excited for the new episodes next year.  Somehow out of the valley of the shadow of David Lynch leaving, he returned AND doubled the episode order.  Truly...truly a gift)!  Thanks for getting me off my butt and doing the work that really needs to be done, Sarah.  I hope you and everyone enjoy it!  *Dale Cooper style thumbs up*

Daily Storyboard Project Day 9 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey folks! Today we come to the end of the thumbnails I sketched out in the initial hour of this project. Actually went a little beyond with one I'd had in mind, but not had time to sketch. Even so, today's frame count came out to four, instead of an even six, since there were no more yet planned. This means that tomorrow, I'll be spending one hour drawing as many new thumbnails as I can, and then the next hour starting to shore those up, so there will be three new finished frames tomorrow.

But as for today's content, Riley stands, his demonstration complete, and is greeted with cheers and adoration from those around him. We then pull back to see the ACTUAL start of the story, Autumn, who looks on, displeased. With, one might say, discontent.

I'm here debuting an altered design of Autumn, who like Riley has undergone a change of ethnicity. Autumn is now of Bangladeshi descent, and is thus South Asian. I think she wears the change quite nicely. Looking forward to bringing you more of her and the events which will define this short, upon the morrow! Hope you enjoy what I have today.

Daily Sketch Project Day 95 - Stained Glass Stair

Hey everyone!  Today I have a prompt for you from Brian, who asked that I depict something from a lyrics of the band The Chameleons.  No small task, with so many excellent options from which to choose!  In the end, one of theirs that stick with me the most is from the song Paradiso, off of their album Strange Times from 1987.  More than anything, it was the phrase, "stained glass stair," but the couplet in which it resides is this:

"I recall a closing door, and I remember,
Seeing shadows cross a stained glass sky"

I knew that there was no way that 30's minutes would be time enough to draw a technically illustrated spiral staircase (I wanted it to be spiral for whatever reason), so I faked it mostly and used color to give the impression of the general shape.  And there was no point in making it black and white really, so I went color on it.  Maybe the most abstract piece that's yet come out of DSP, but I'm not unpleased with it.  The idea of it in my head would take a lot longer to do justice to, I think, but I did what I could with the general idea in the time allotted.

I hope you like it Brian!  There were a lot to choose from, and there's plenty more to mine in their oeuvre.  Heck there's plenty more to mine from the lyrics I did take as inspiration.  Hope everyone else likes it too!

Daily Storyboard Project Day 8 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey folks!  Here's the storyboards I produced today, which show the volleyball striking Earth once more, and intensely at that, blowing a fair bit of sand up into the air, and Riley quickly following.  He then raises his hand aloft.

It also finishes up the third full page of boards produced by this project.  Now onto the fourth!
And the volleyball comes right back to Riley.  He stands, quite pleased with his exhibition.  The last panel isn't finished, but I'm still one ahead of the general plan, so I'm counting that one as a victory still!  It will be completed upon the morrow!

Daily Sketch Project Day 94 - Rock Lee Believes and Achieves

Hey everyone!  Today’s Daily Sketch suggestion comes from first time suggestor, Linh.  While talking the other day, she uttered the statement you see in this poster, and explained that it’s her motivational phrase (although she always uses it sarcastically).  I mentioned that it sounded like it should be on a poster or mug or something with Rock Lee, and thus, she suggested it for DSP, and I’m only too happy to see it realized.

He’s always been one of my favs in Naruto, and this is absolutely something that would come out of his mouth.  It’s great to draw him again, after so so long!  Here’s hoping this can get you everyone motivated, when motivation is what they need!  Remember folks, IF YOU BELIEVE, YOU CAN ACHIEVE!!!

I hope it ACHIEVES your vision, Linh and that you and everyone else get a kick out of it!

Daily Storyboard Project Day 7 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey folks! Here with another storyboard update! We pick up where we left off, with riley rising up into the sky after that volleyball, which he quickly spikes back down to the earth below. The last panel there isn't complete, but I'm actually two framed ahead at current, not counting that one, so I think it sort of evens out. Don't worry; it will be finished up tomorrow!

Daily Sketch Project Day 94

So from today on, I think what I'll do is just make the new prompt post as soon as I post my Daily Sketch.  This way I don't forget to do it at midnight, and really, you can add a new idea whenever you want.  If you don't see the next day's post yet, feel free to post on the most recent one.  Each idea has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn! These are those currently submitted:

Gabriel: Japan Trip Portrait

Linh: A motivational poster of Rock Lee, with the text, "IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN ACHIEVE'

Brian: Illustrated imagery from a The Chameleons song

Sarah: Avatar Cooper

Daily Sketch Project Day 93 - Vincent van Goghtoshop

Hey folks!  Today's prompt comes from Anthony, who wanted to see a portrayal of Vincent van Gogh using Photoshop to paint Starry Night.  Gotta admit, portraying so famous and talented an artist, AND a sketchy pastiche of one of history's most famous paintings is a bit daunting, but I fit what I could into the 30 minutes I had.  Van Gogh's rocking the Cintiq up in here.  It would be interesting to see how his art would manifest in modern times...  With the broad variety the art world presents us these days, who knows?

Thanks for the fun time suggestion Anthony!  I hope you and everyone else like it!

Daily Storyboard Project Day 6 - Autumn’s Discontent: Beach Day

Hey folks!  Here with my Daily Storyboards!  Only one more frame needed to be done to complete this page, so here’s the last sixteen, with one new one in the bottom right corner.  Then Metrus rockets off into the sky after the very volleyball that he himself sent aloft, gravity having no hold over him.  He’s getting closer.  SO MUCH CLOSER.

Daily Sketch Project Day 93

Okay folks, here you can submit ideas for future sketches! We're starting a new thirty-day cycle with month four today! Anyone and everyone can submit one at a time. Each idea has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn! These are those currently submitted:

Anthony: Vincent van Gogh using Photoshop to paint Starry Night

Gabriel: Japan Trip Portrait

Linh: A motivational poster of Rock Lee, with the text, "IF YOU BELIEVE YOU CAN ACHIEVE'

Brian: Illustrated imagery from a The Chameleons song

Daily Sketch Project Day 92 - Cullen Rutherford: 21st Century Templar

Hey everyone!  Here today with a suggestion from James, who wanted to see a 21st century version of Cullen Rutherford from the Dragon Age series.  I admit I've never played the games, but I've always heard great things, and this is actually the second time I've drawn Master Rutherford for DSP, though the last time was in chibi form.  He's keepin' it kinda casual, looking rather dapper.

Thanks for the suggestion, James, and I hope you like it!  I have a feeling Farah might also get a particular kick out of this.

Daily Sketch Project Day 91 - Cloud vs. Sephiroth

Hey folks! Today's prompt comes from Brandon, who, in honor of the announced Final Fantasy 7 remake, wanted to see Cloud and Sephiroth from said game doing battle. I must admit I've never played any Final Fantasy game before, much less 7, so my knowledge of these two is only from cultural osmosis. Something about being intense enemies, Sephiroth kills Aeris, something about each having one wing. Yeah. That's mostly the extent of it!

Even if I know nothing about them, I hope you Brandon, and everyone else can still enjoy my sketch!

Daily Storyboard Project Day 5 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey everyone! We continue our journay today, where Riley is doing something causing things things around him to begin floating. Just what is this boy wonder up to?

Daily Sketch Project Month 3 Revisited - The Adventures of Sonya Baggins, Farin Fandomshield, and Chrisdalf the Grey against the dreaded and terrible CBSmaug

Hey my peoples!  So here at the end of the third thirty-day cycle of DSP, and the beginning of the fourth, I went back and chose a drawing from the last month to put another hour of work into.  It was tricky, because there were so many excellent choices that could use more love.  Freddie Krueger vs. Inception, David Bowie and the Necronomicon, Gandalf and Bilbo relaxing, the list goes on and on.  It's always a very difficult choice to make, but not only do I love this prompt of Sonya's with a flaming passion, but I also felt that I didn't to realize it nearly so well as I wanted, which is less true of the others that weren't selected.  That definitely seems to be the way I make the choice for these revisists.  The prompt with the widest chasm between what I envisioned, and what I got down while drawing.  I feel like I say this every time, but it's the truth of the matter.

There was so much that had to go into sketching this one out, that the lines were all fairly rushed, so I really wanted more time to shore them up and make them look a bit nicer.  And thus is what was done.  While there's still a lot needed to make this really "complete," it's certainly a good bit tighter and more pleasing to mine eyes now.

I'm sorry that I didn't get more of it done!  It's still one of my top favorite DSPs :3  Thanks again for the beeeeeautiful suggestion Sonya Baggins!  I hope you and Farin Fandomshield, and everyone else enjoy the slightly more finished version!

Daily Sketch Project Day 90 - Maya The Mayan Bee

Hey everyone!  Day 90 of DSP sees me rectifying a prompt I misunderstood from Guillaume.  I originally simply drew Maya The Bee in an interation or two, without taking into account the second "Maya," in the prompt suggestions, so here, I've corrected this error.  Here's Maya in full Maya priestess regalia, as accurately as my cursory research could make it.  I'm by no means an expert in Central American history, much less Mayan, but this is sort of an amalgam of the source images that I could find.  I hope it, respectful and accurate.  If not, I apologize, and please let me know how I can do better.

Additionally, although it can't really be recognized, I envisioned her atop The Pyramid of the Sun in Teotihuacan.

I hope you and everyone like it Nohm, and I'm sorry for not getting it right the first time!  Thanks for the suggestion, my friend!

Daily Storyboard Project Day 4 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey there!  So I realized after I posted yesterday's boards, that I should have posted the whole first page for easier reading, so here that is!

And next are the new boards, in which Riley seems to be ramping up for some even greater maneuver than levitating a volleyball.

Daily Sketch Project Day 90

Okay folks, here you can submit ideas for future sketches! Anyone and everyone can submit one at a time. Each idea has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn! These are those currently submitted:

Guillaume: Maya the Mayan Bee

P.S. It's day 90, so one of the sketches from the past 30 days is getting another hour's worth of work done on it!

Daily Sketch Project Day 89 - The Nebraska Realization

Hey peoples! Today's prompt comes from Sonya, who wanted to see a sketch representation of a moment, which happened in my life, recently. I was sitting on the couch. I think I was going over movies that were on my To-Watch List, and the movie Nebraska came to mind. It was then I realized that, for a period of time whose length I do not know, I completely forgot that Nebraska existed, much less was one of the fifty states. And so here's my sketchy attempt to depict that moment of strange epiphany that washed over me.

I hope you and everyone enjoy this'n Sonya! Thanks for helping me work through this traumatic experience, via art :P

Daily Storyboard Project Day 3 - Autumn’s Discontent: Beach Day

So I did end up going in and making another in between frame for the shot tilting down to make the transition more fluid.  And now we see that Riley continues to show off his powers to an amazed and adoring crowd of fans.  Just how much will he ham it up?  Guess we’ll have to wait and see :3

Daily Sketch Project Day 89

Okay folks, here you can submit ideas for future sketches! Anyone and everyone can submit one at a time. Each idea has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn! These are those currently submitted:

Sonya: Me suddenly remembering that Nebraska exists

Anthony: Vincent van Gogh using Photoshop to paint Starry Night

James: Cullen Rutherford: 21st Century Templar

Gabriel: Japan Trip Portrait

Brandon: Cloud vs. Sephiroth

Guillaume: Maya the Mayan Bee

Daily Sketch Project Day 88 - The SB-Files

Hey everyone!  Today, I'm happy to bring a brilliant idea from Farah, who wanted to see me as Fox Mulder from The X-Files, while Stannis Baratheon (the TRUE Stannis Baratheon) is my aliens.  She left it up to me to choose my Scully, and I selected Ser Davos Seaworth.  She was inspired by this picture, which she posted to my wall.

So here's how I see this going down.  I'm sitting on the couch at a Alexis's house one day, watching one of my most favorite of characters on the television.  Then all of a sudden, with no warning or sensible reason, I see his Characterization taken, gone without a trace.  Others try to console me, but I can never escape that I watched the true Stannis Baratheon be taken by unknowable, malign forces.  I devote my life to finding out why this was done, what they've done with him.  It damaged my relationships, personal and professional, and eventually I'm relegated to crackpot theories that no one else will even look at.  I know Stannis is out there somewhere.  And at the end of my rope, I know there's only one man who can help me: Ser Davos Seaworth.  Once Stannis's greatest proponent and hand to the One True King, since learning of his lord's "death," and the codswallop that he burnt his own daughter alive shortly before his demise, has lost faith in most everything.  He's a tried and true skeptic now, but there's something about the claims I make.  The things I tell him.  Things about sinister "showrunners," and a great author who knows the truth about Stannis, and holds the key to his location.  Davos can't ignore the possibility, even if he keeps his skepticism up at first.

So we investigate.  We follow cases where Justice is dealt by a mysterious figure no one can seem to pin down for long.  We find evidence of teeth grinding.  We smell a trail of salt and smoke.  We know he's out there.  And we'll find him.

Thanks so much to Faru, for the amazing prompt.  I hope you and everyone enjoy it!  I have to say that this is one my all time favorites that I've done for DSP, from prompt, to the way it turned out, to writing this backstory.  I just.  I love it.  We'll find you Stannis.  We'll find you.

Daily Storyboard Project Day 2 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey everyone! Here with some more storyboards for ya, in which a redesign of one of the main characters, Riley (also known at the superhero Metrus), first sees the light of day. It's possible and even likely that he'll go through further design changes, but this is where I am with him now.

When I first designed characters for Autumn's Discontent, I was much less aware of issues of representation and didn't think nearly so much about it, so most of the folks were predictably white. In recent times, I've been going back and adding more racial variety, the first evidence being the new Riley, who is now of Filipino descent. I remember seeing an article some time ago about the absurd disconnect between the number of Filipino people in the US and the number of Filipino characters in ANY media. It's low in a severely unjust way. If any of my Filipino friends and family would like to help me learn more about Filipino culture, and what it's like living and growing up Filipino, I'll be seriously grateful. As one who is about as white as you can get, of course I have no knowledge about that experience, and wouldn't want to proceed without doing my darnedest to represent life as a Filipino as faithfully as I can.

The unfinished frame in there was going to be a between shot for a couple frames back, but I realized I think I can just mess with one of the shots a little to where it might not be needed, which I'll do tomorrow.

Thanks for checking this out, and I hope you all enjoy it!

Daily Sketch Project Day 88

Okay folks, here you can submit ideas for future sketches! Anyone and everyone can submit one at a time. Each idea has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn! These are those currently submitted:

Sonya: Me suddenly remembering that Nebraska exists

Anthony: Vincent van Gogh using Photoshop to paint Starry Night

Farah: You as Fox Mulder and Stannis is your Aliens and you can pick your choice for Scully and add in whoever you want

Daily Sketch Project Day 87 - Disco Tassadar and Funky Zeratul

Hey everyone!  Tonight's groovy suggestion comes from Christopher, who wanted to see the characters Tassadar and Zeratul of StarCraft fame in some out of sight fashion, doing some 70's style moves, and here I've sought to oblige!  Tassadar's getting his Saturday Night Fever on, while Zeratul's gettin' down to the funkiest of beats.

Thanks for the prompt, you cool cat!  I hope you and everyone out there likes it!  EN TARO TRAVOLTA AND FUNKADELIC

Daily Storyboard Project Day 1 - Autumn's Discontent: Beach Day

Hey folks! For the first sequence that I'll storyboard, I've come up with a short for an idea of mine for a series called Autumn's Discontent. I'll explain more as time goes by, but for now, here are the opening storyboards!

Daily Storyboard Project

Hello folks!  So I've been having a lovely time doing the Daily Sketch Project, and I've been wanting to do something wherein I can work a longer form, more narrative angle into the mix.  Thirty minutes isn't enough to do too much of a story with a lot of detail, so I've worked out something that I want to try.

Here's how I'm going to try it: On Day 1, I'll work up an idea that I want to turn into storyboards.  For brainstorming something to board, I'll give myself an hour.  After that, I'll give myself an hour to thumbnail out as much as I can from that idea.  Then, on each day after that, I'll work for two hours, doing at least 3 boards per hour.  So six boards a day until I catch up with where the thumbnails left off.  Then I'll spend another hour the next day doing more thumbnails, and repeat the process until the idea's fully boarded out.

In this way I'm for sure doing a little storyboarding, and can get some of the ideas that rattle around in my head down into actual visual form.  And it'll keep me from getting too wrapped up in details, and get me moving at a good clip.  Hopefully it will get me drawing better faster over time!  At least for the inaugural run, I'll be working from an idea that I have for something.  Depending on how things go, I may open this up to suggestions from others in the future.

I've already worked out the idea and some thumbnails for this first go-through, so I'll be working on some boards today.  I'll post what I have every day for you folks to see.  Like with my Daily Sketches, it's much more motivating for me to be accountable in public to other people than simply to myself.  Makes it feel more concrete.

That's all for now!  I'll post up some boards later today!

Daily Sketch Project Day 87

Okay folks, here you can submit ideas for future sketches! Anyone and everyone can submit one at a time. Each idea has a chance to be sketched every day, and will stay in the running it's drawn! These are those currently submitted:

Christopher: Disco Tassadar and Funky Zeratul

Sonya: Me suddenly remembering that Nebraska exists

Anthony: Vincent van Gogh using Photoshop to paint Starry Night

James: Cullen Rutherford: 21st Century Templar

Farah Karim: You as Fox Mulder and Stannis is your Aliens and you can pick your choice for Scully and add in whoever you want

Daily Sketch Project Day 86 - How Not to Solve a Rubik's Cube

SPOILER ALERT FOR THE LAST TWO EPISODES OF GAME OF THRONES FOR SEASON 5

Benioff: So you're saying if we have Stannis burn Shireen as a sacrifice, ruining his character and that whole part of the story...R'hlorr will show us how to solve the Rubik's Cube?
Melissanre: *nods*
D & D: *look at one another*
Benioff: What do you think, D.B.?
Weiss: Let's DO IT!!!

Hi folks!  Today's prompt is the title, and it comes from Alison.  Alison, I'm sorry to drag my ranting into your prompt, but it was open ended, and left to its own devices, my mind won't stop focusing on a very particular topic, ennumerated above.  Whether for shock value or the answers to one of life's most famous puzzles, THERE'S NO GOOD REASON FOR WHAT HAPPENED...is my point.  One of the worst ways you could solve a Rubik's Cube.  Kids, don't do it.  Just don't.  Look up methods online, or ask your friends.  Don't ask D & D.  Don't consult with fire gods.  Don't ruin characters.  Don't decimate stories.  Don't sacrifice children.  Don't sacrifice ANYONE.  I'm begging you.

This has been a PSA from Christopher Nance.  I hope you and everyone like it Alison.  I'm sorry for soapboxing it.

Daily Sketch Project Day 85 - The Joker Puts On His Face

Hey folks!  Today's suggestion comes from Brandon, and he wanted to see The Joker "putting on his face."  Given recent comic events, this could have been taken rather literally.  I won't say I went for a tame interpretation, but a tamER interpretation?  He's fixing up his look after a rather...grotesque activity of some kind or another.  Seems rather unfazed, all things considered.  Imagine that!

I feel like I need to work on my Joker design.  All things sai,d I'm not overly satisfied with the look I gave him here, so I'll have to work through it on any future Joker prompts to come up with something more satisfying.

I hope you and everyone like it Brandon!

Daily Sketch Project Day 84 - The Resurrection of Christ

Hey everyone!  Today's suggestion is from my Aunt Cheri, who wanted to see me depict The Resurrection of Christ.  A prompt burdened with a great history of depiction throughout the ages, by innumerable artists.  But I took my Daily Sketch crack at it here.  Looking it up, I don't think there are any particular accounts of the actual resurrection process.  Only the aftermath is depicted.  Suddenly he's out and about, and greeting Mary Magdalene.  No one sees the stone roll or Jesus (presumably) walk out.

So I figured I'd depict him the moment he steps squinting out into the bright sunlight, after so much time in the darkness.  I also imagined shades of Samson in his pose.  I listened to some of Beethoven's Missa Solemnis while drawing this, so credit to Beethoven for helping with the mood!

Thanks for the great prompt, Aunt Cheri!  Gethsemane was such a low point in the life of Christ, so it's nice to follow it up with a great moment of triumph.

Daily Sketch Project Day 83 - Izanagi and Orpheus

Hey there people!  Today's prompt comes from Anthony, who wanted to see the mythic figures Izanagi (right) and Orpheus (left) at a bar, discussing their lady troubles.  Both of their wives died, and these two attempted to retrieve them from the underworld, each with less than optimal results.  There are so many versions that have come up throughout history, but I tried to keep the depictions fairly historically accurate.  Well...accurate to how they've been portrayed historically.

A spendidly made transcultural connection, Sir Anthony!  It was news to me, so I guess it shows how well-educated I am on the classics.  Thanks for the enlightening suggestion!  I hope you and everyone like it!

Daily Sketch Project Day 82 - Modern AU Melissandre

Hey folks!  Today’s prompt comes from James, who wanted to see a modern day interpretation of the character Melissandre from Game of Thrones.  I figured she’d be something like the charismatic leader of, or a high ranking member of some strange cult, a la Scientology, since the religion of R’hllor isn’t the most widespread religion in the Seven Kingdoms, and is only practiced by a limited number of people in Westeros.  It’s not nearly so new as Scientology, but like I say, something like that-ish.

Melissandre and I really aren’t on speaking terms at the moment, due to recent, and probable future events (though I’ve never really liked her, however much I love and root for Stannis), but it was fun imagining her in a different context.

Thanks for the fun prompt, James, old boy!  I hope you and everyone else like it!

Daily Sketch Project Day 81 - Freddie Krueger and Inception

Hello folks! Today's suggestion comes from Anthony. He wanted to see the crew from Inception trying to escape from Freddie Krueger. I could think of no better setting that maybe my favorite sequence from Inception, the hallway scene. It allowed for a fun, dynamic composition, with surfaces tilted in a way one doesn't get to draw all the time. It was quite fun to work with!

I hope you and everyone like it Anthony! Thanks for the most excellent prompt!

Daily Sketch Project Day 80 - Maya the Bee

Hey peoples! Today's suggestion comes from Guillaume, who wanted to see the character Maya from the Maya The Bee series. There was a Japanese cartoon version produced in the 70's and there's now a recent 3D animated version, so I decided to draw a meeting of the two era. I'd never heard of the series before, so it was quite interesting to research. It has an unusual origin, though the later incarnations, from what I've read, don't seem to be consumed by that and go out of their way to eschew it. It's intriguing, if you're so-inclined to find out more.

I hope you like it Nohm, and that the same can be said for everyone else! Thanks for the fun prompt!
